Detroit Lake
We arrived in Portland on Thursday February 19th around 1p.m. We had quite the adventure getting here though...we left home at 4:30a.m. to meet the shuttle in Kenosha at the Brat Stop at 5:25a.m. Well...the shuttle didn't arrive until 6:30a.m. and our flight was leaving O'Hare Airport at 7:10a.m. The driver didn't show up for work and when the replacement drive did show up, the bus got stuck in the ice! We caught the next shuttle and Delta was able to put us on the next flight out at 8:55a.m. The Lord really took care of all of the details and we arrived approximately 40 minutes later than we would have had we caught our original flight! Jeremiah did very well on the flights too which we are very thankful for as it could have made for a very long day! We drove the rental car to Salem, approximately a 45 minute drive and arrived at our friends' the Garlands' house at about 3:30p.m. Shortly after that we left for a cottage at Detroit Lake for a night. We had a wonderful relaxing time of fun and fellowship in a beautiful home that the Garland's friends made available for all of us to stay at. Detroit Lake is a unique lake that is fed by mountain runoff and is kept full by the Detroit Dam at the bottom of the lake. Every fall the dam is opened and the lake empties for the winter. In spring the dam is closed off and the lake quickly refills with mountain runoff for a summer of lake activities. I have attached a few pictures. I forgot my camera at home so I don't have as many photos as I was hoping!
